Bridge Photographs
Check out some of my favorite bridges in Massachusetts! Most bridge photos are annotated with a fact sheet of technical data from the National Bridge Inventory Database.

Photos of Roads and Highways Massachusetts and its communities are bound and interconnected by an aging network of roads and expressways. Here you will find links to my photographs of interesting roads and places in Massachusetts, and a search engine to find more of my photographs that I haven't linked to explicitly. Browse around, there's more here than I can possibly present in an organized way including over 2,000 photographs.

Search All Bridges in the U.S.! The National Bridge Inventory is a bridge structure database maintained by the Federal Highway Administration and composed of data supplied to it by the individual state DOTs. This gold mine of data contains a wealth of interesting technical information about almost any bridge. I have made the National Bridge Inventory database for the entire United States available and searchable online by route, place or feature intersected through this simple query form. Hundreds of bridge entries link to my photographs for a visual display of the actual bridge structure.

Boston Reflections at Night Surrounded by winding parkways and harbor and tidal river basins, Boston is a beautiful city at night.
Here is a new gallery of my recent efforts to capture Boston's nighttime beauty in photographs. This includes views of the Boston Skyline along the Charles River and from Boston Harbor.

CITGO Sign at Night - Special Feature The CITGO Sign that towers over Kenmore Square in Boston is the famous Boston landmark that casts a reorienting glow over passers-by on Beacon Street and Commonwealth Avenue and to Red Sox fans at nearby Fenway Park. Rebuilt as a neon sign with the red trimark logo in 1965, the CITGO sign went dark in 1979 and was threatened with demolition in 1982. 1983 saw new life as she was re-lit after years of darkness. In 2005 the sign was re-fitted with LED elements to replace the delicate glass neon tubes that were frequently damaged by New England weather.

Newburyport, Massachusetts - Special Feature Newburyport, on the mouth of the Merrimack River, is an example of successful planned urban renewal. The city was transformed from an aging seaport in the 1960s to an active harbor today featuring shopping, dining and boating in a rejuvenated downtown district. My pictures of Newburyport highlight some of the features of the city including Market Square, the 1934-vintage Route 1 expressway and the drawbridge over the Merrimack River (1976), Chain Bridge (1909), and Whittier Bridge (1954)

Storrow Drive and Memorial Drive at Night The river parkways of the former Metropolitan District Commission, Storrow Drive and Memorial Drive are beautiful at night. Here are some recent nighttime time-lapse photographs.
